South Africa Timeshare Frequently Asked Questions

Is South Africa Timeshare Deeded or Right-To-Use? What Do I Own?
Most timeshares that are sold in South Africa are held as what is called "share blocks". A share block sort of like owning stock in a company; you own it until you sell it. It is yours and your heirs forever, and is willable and fully transferable. When you purchase a South African timeshare, you will receive a share block certificate, which is used as proof of your ownership and needs to be presented if you ever decide to sell your South African timeshare ownership. The share block certificate that you receive when you purchase a South Africa timeshare unit is in place of the recorded deed that you would receive from timeshare unit in the United States.

What Is The Difference Between RCI U.S.A. and RCI South Africa?
RCI has regional offices located around the world. Your RCI Membership and Exchange rules are determined by where you live, not where you own your timeshare. As a resident of North America, when you purchase a unit in South Africa, you can buy your RCI Weeks Membership in South Africa, become a member of RCI South Africa, and pay for the dues in South African Rand. This can save you money depending on the current exchange rate. This should only be considered if you intend on being a RCI Weeks member, not an RCI Points member.

What is RAND?
The RAND is the currency in South Africa. Traditionally the RAND has had a weak trading power. Currently, March 1, 2005, the exchange rate is approximately $6.40 RAND = $1.00 USD. Maintenance fees for units that you own in South Africa are billed in the South Africa Rand, so your maintenance fees will vary based on the current exchange rate at the time you pay your annual maintenance fees.

How Do I Pay My Maintenance Fees?
Maintenance fees in South Africa are called Levies. Your annual maintenance fees, or levies, are payable directly to the resort, and can usually be paid with credit card authorization by fax. There are no annual taxes associated with South Africa Timeshare Ownership.

How Can I Exchange My South Africa Timeshare Ownership?
All but three of the timeshares in South Africa are affiliated with RCI Weeks. If you are a RCI Points member, you may be able to use South Africa timeshare ownership through the RCI Points for deposit program.
