How to "upgrade" your week to Points or Credits

With the popularity of Points and Credit based vacation ownership programs, many Weeks based timeshare (traditional timeshare) owners want to upgrade their to the more flexible points based timeshare ownership programs.

There are 2 ways that you can upgrade to a Points or Credits based vacation ownership program. The procedure that applies to you depends on the current RCI property that you own and which points/credits program you would like to become a member of.

If you own a resort that has become affiliated with the RCI Points program (otherwise known as converted to RCI Points), the only way that you can upgrade that week to points / credits is directly through the resort. When a resort upgrades to points, the resort is in control of the fees involved in the upgrade. Most resorts require that you visit the resort to upgrade to points. The fees range from $1000 - $7000 + depending on the resort you own at. Some resorts require the purchase of an additional timeshare unit to upgrade to points. Many owners choose to simply sell the week they own as a week and buy a timeshare that is already in a points / credits program.

If the resort you own has not upgraded to points, you can use the week you own through a Points / Credits for Deposit Program. These programs allows members who own a RCI Weeks affiliated property to use their week as points / credits instead of trading it as a week. To use points for deposit you must purchase another timeshare that is affiliated with a Points / Credits based timeshare. Depending on how many points you need, some owners choose to sell their current timeshare and purchase a Points / Credits time share, thus keeping their annual maintenance fees lower.
